Breast Augmentation Chevy Chase

Breast augmentation is among the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures a very popular procedure for women. A saline-filled or silicone gel-filled implant is inserted through small incisions either in the crease under the breast, around the nipple or through the armpit. The implant can be placed under the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. After surgery, breasts will appear "fuller" and more shapely in contour. Often, patients will elect to have a breast lift or mastopexy performed at the same time as the augmentation. This combination of procedures can increase both firmness and size.

On November 17, 2006, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of silicone breast implants for women desiring breast enhancement surgery. This now gives women a choice when choosing breast augmentation. Silicone implants have an advantage over saline implants in that they tend to produce softer, more natural appearing breasts.

These procedures are typically performed under general anesthesia on an out-patient basis, meaning you will be able to go home that same day. Full recovery to normal activity level typically takes 2-3 weeks.
