Although rarely discussed, enlarged male breasts are a common condition. Gynecomastia affects approximately 40 to 60 percent of men. In most cases, there is no known cause for gynecomastia.
Men who feel self-conscious may be helped with breast-reduction surgery. In this procedure fat and/or glandular tissue is removed, resulting in a chest that has a more traditional male contour. This may be accompanied with liposuction or with direct excision of the breast tissue. In select cases excess skin may also need to be removed.
This procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia on an out-patient basis, meaning you will be able to go home that same day. Full recovery to normal activity level typically takes 2-3 weeks
